In order to update and modernize our backend infrastructure a change was made around 2:30 today to a legacy DNS server in Charlottesville. Emails were sent last month to those who we still saw querying this server, but some configurations may not have been updated. DNS is a low-level component of any internet connection.
If your connection appeared to go offline at around 2:30, it is possible you or an IT person should update your router's configuration as follows:
REMOVE (Old DNS server IPs): 216.30.180.21 216.30.180.22
REPLACE with (New DNS server IPs) : 64.98.98.98 64.98.98.99
A typical technical test to determine if you are seeing a DNS issue is that a ping to 8.8.8.8 resolves, but an nslookup of any website name does not. If you need assistance with this, please contact support at 1-844-846-4994 though note in most cases a hardcoded DNS value would need to be updated in your router directly by local IT and we may not have access to change it.
This change would only affect customers who had the old DNS server values hard-coded in their routers; our newer ones have been set via DHCP for multiple years at this point. Generally these would only be customers who had pre-Ting legacy service carried over from Blue Ridge Internetworks, or those with custom configurations that would require manual / static entry of DNS servers.
